The AHA Course Advanced Cardiac Life Support
The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course at Health Career Institute is intended for healthcare professionals who deal directly with the management of cardiovascular emergencies. This includes healthcare professionals in emergency medicine, emergency response, intensive care and critical care units.
AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course Content
- Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
- Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and use of an (AED)
- Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
- Airway management
- Related pharmacology
- Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
- Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
- Effective Resuscitation Team Dynamics
The initial course takes approximately 10 to 12 hours to fulfill, which includes practicing your skills and testing. If you are renewing your certification, you can expect the course to take about 5 to 6 hours in total. In the classroom, you will use learning stations for practice and have a lot of hands-on practice to help reinforce the information you are learning. After successful completion of the course, demonstration of your skills, and an exam, you will earn an ACLS completion card that will be valid for 2 years.
